MARQUETTE, Mich. — Collegiate and AlumniFi, two financial brands created by MSU Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU), have opened a new Financial Commons at Northern Michigan University designed to provide students, alumni, faculty and staff with financial services, education and in-person guidance, according to MSUFCU.
The Collegiate + AlumniFi Financial Commons, located in NMU’s Northern Center, was formally opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by university and credit union leaders, alumni, community partners, board members and employees.
MSUFCU said the new space combines digital banking tools with on-campus financial guidance and is intended to support students during college and alumni after graduation.

‘Committed to Helping’
“We are committed to helping students, faculty, and staff navigate life’s most important financial decisions with trusted guidance and personalized support,” April Clobes, president and CEO of Collegiate, AlumniFi and MSUFCU, said in a statement.
Clobes said the Financial Commons will provide students with resources to build financial skills while giving alumni access to financial tools and a continued connection to the university.
Digital and In-Person Services
The new center includes several services aimed at different segments of the NMU community:
- Collegiate provides student-focused checking and savings accounts with no monthly fees, along with spending insights, customizable savings goals and financial education.
- AlumniFi is designed for graduating students, alumni, faculty and staff and offers savings products, debt repayment tools and other financial wellness resources.
- The Financial Commons includes video tellers, a technology bar for mobile banking assistance and private offices for scheduled meetings with financial wellness specialists.
- Virtual and in-person workshops will address budgeting, credit use, first-time homebuying and account security.
MSUFCU said the university will also add three fee-free ATMs on campus, while members will have access to a nationwide network of more than 30,000 fee-free ATMs.
“At NMU, we are dedicated to providing our students with comprehensive resources that prepare them for long-term success both inside and outside the classroom,” NMU President Chris Olsen said in a statement.

Olsen said the partnership gives students additional money-management resources during college while providing alumni with an ongoing connection to the university.
Focus on Students and Alumni
Collegiate was created by MSUFCU as a digital banking platform geared specifically toward college students, with mobile-first banking, savings tools and financial literacy resources.
AlumniFi, also created by MSUFCU, is designed for people moving beyond college and offers digital banking products and financial wellness tools.
Both brands are powered by MSU Federal Credit Union and deposits are federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration.
Northern Michigan University, founded in 1899, has more than 6,500 undergraduate and graduate students and about 1,200 employees.
