FOLSOM, Calif. – SAFE Credit Union has received a Best Place to Work Award in the Very Large Employer category by the Sacramento Business Journal, the eighth time the credit union has received the honor since 2018.
“This award is a testament to our talented and dedicated employees who are the strength behind our workplace culture,” says SAFE Credit Union President and CEO Faye Nabhani. “At SAFE, we believe that employees deserve to be heard, respected, and have opportunity to grow in their careers.”
SAFE Credit Union Executive Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer Colleen Nerius notes that the Best Place to Work award is based completely on employees’ opinions and feedback on anonymous surveys provided by the Sacramento Business Journal.
“What makes this honor stand out is that it is based exclusively on the opinions of our own employees, and what they said was that they appreciate our culture that promotes teamwork, support for one another, and a healthy work-life balance,” Nerius says.
SAFE employs around 600 employees who work in the credit union’s branches in the Greater Sacramento area and at its corporate office in Folsom. SAFE offers advancement opportunities through clear career pathways, training and education, mentorship and hands-on skills building. A number of SAFE leaders and executives can trace their career path with SAFE from the branches and contact center to corporate leadership positions.
“It’s important at SAFE that we build connection and community among our employees, who in turn ‘pay it forward’ by strengthening ties with members and the community through service and volunteerism,” Nerius says.
SAFE further strengthens employee ties through employee resource groups (ERGs). The credit union currently has eight ERGs that advocate for and support employees from various backgrounds and life experiences.
The credit union said it encourages employees to volunteer for causes they care about by providing 16 paid hours a year to volunteer and it conducts volunteer drives such as the recent For What’s Good: Spring Into Volunteering month of service, and service initiatives that directly benefit families who need a little help.
