VERNON HILLS, Ill. —Illinois-based BCU has expanded its community charter into four Minnesota counties, opening membership in the $6.5 billion credit union to people who live or work in much of the Twin Cities area.
BCU said the expansion makes individuals and their families who live or work in Anoka, Dakota, Hennepin and Ramsey counties eligible for membership. The credit union already has more than 28,000 members in Minnesota through relationships with employers including Boston Scientific, Target and UnitedHealth Group.
The expanded charter also gives newly eligible members access to BCU’s existing branch in Golden Valley, Minnesota.
BCU Builds on Employer Relationships
BCU President Jim Block said the credit union’s presence in Minnesota has developed through long-standing relationships with major Twin Cities employers.
“For 45 years, BCU has proudly empowered people to discover financial freedom across the US and Puerto Rico,” Block said. “Today, more than 28,000 Minnesotans are already BCU members through our long-standing partnerships with leading Twin Cities employers who recognize that supporting their employees includes supporting their financial health as part of overall well-being.”
Block said the expanded eligibility will allow the credit union to reach additional consumers while continuing to provide financial products, digital tools and guidance.
Part of a Broader Strategy
The Minnesota expansion is part of a broader growth strategy that combines employer-based membership with community charters. BCU already has community charters in Illinois, Wisconsin and Puerto Rico.
