Municipal CU Partners With College to Provide Employees, Families Discounted Tuition, Other Assistance

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Municipal Credit Union has partnered with St. Francis College to provide the credit union’s employees and their families with discounted tuition and other assistance in pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Under the agreement, MCU employees, their spouses and children will be eligible for tuition discounts of nearly 25% per credit based on the college’s 2025-26 tuition rates, according to Municipal Credit Union.

Eligible students will also be able to transfer as many as 98 credits toward a St. Francis degree, allowing employees and family members with previous college coursework to apply those credits toward completing a degree rather than starting over.

St. Francis will provide a dedicated admissions adviser to help eligible MCU employees and their families navigate the application and enrollment process.

The Needs of Working Adults

MCU said the partnership is aimed in part at addressing the needs of working adults who attended college but did not complete a degree. The credit union cited research showing nearly 700,000 working-age New Yorkers have completed some college coursework without earning a degree.

“At St. Francis, our mission is to offer our affordably elite higher education experience to as many people as possible,” St. Francis College President Tim Cecere said in a statement provided by MCU. “Partnering with MCU, such an important organization in our greater New York City community, allows us to equip even more students with the tools they need to succeed.”

MCU President and CEO Kyle Markland said the agreement is also part of the credit union’s efforts to invest in employee development.

“At MCU, investing in our employees means investing in their growth and in the communities we serve,” Markland said. “Our partnership with St. Francis College gives our employees and their families greater access to affordable higher education and new opportunities to advance their personal and professional goals.”

The agreement is scheduled to continue through the 2027 academic year, according to MCU.

Founded in New York City in 1916, Municipal Credit Union serves municipal employees, police officers, firefighters, teachers, health care workers and other eligible members. MCU reported $5.2 billion in assets and more than 650,000 members.
