BOSSIER CITY, La.–The nation’s credit unions remain targets of the nation’s drivers, with their buildings and offices being struck on an unusually regular basis by cars and other vehicles.

Here are some of the latest incidents:
- In Bossier City, La., an elderly man crashed his vehicle into a Haughton credit union Saturday, according to the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office. Investigators said the vehicle was already parked in the credit union’s parking lot when the crash occurred. The credit union was open at the time. BPSO spokesperson Sgt. Bertrand said deputies believe the driver mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake. The driver was cited, but no criminal charges are expected. Medics evaluated the man at the scene, but he was not transported to a hospital.
- In Butler, Penn.–Armco Credit Union said it is erecting a “crash wall” to protect its office following an accident in January 2025 when a garbage truck crashed into the branch’s west wall after sliding down a hill and across Hansen Avenue.
“The safety of our staff and members is our highest priority,” CEO James Hrabosky said in a news release. “While we cannot change what happened last year, we can take meaningful steps to help prevent a similar incident from occurring again.”
According to ACU, construction of the wall began June 4, and is expected to be completed in three weeks. The barrier wall will be constructed of steel beams, set up between the bank’s drive-through lanes and the south end of Renaissance Drive, parallel to Hansen Avenue, two roads which the truck had to cross to get to the building, it explained.
Beams Weigh Three Tons
The steel beams are lifted with a recently constructed crane. Each beam is about 50 feet long and weighs 6,000 pounds. The beams are lifted by a crane and lined up before being driven about 42 feet into the ground, leaving 6 to 8 feet above ground. Once they’re all in, two more steel beams will be welded horizontally to the top and bottom of the beams, ACU stated.
- In Rock Island, Ill., local police are searching for a man who they say crashed into a credit union while running from officers. Police said 41-year-old Michael Lindquist pulled into an alley to avoid a traffic stop just after 8:30 a.m., according to KWQC. He then sped into the drive-thru of the Gas and Electric Credit Union on 4th Avenue, crashing directly into the building and causing major damage, the report, which added that Lindquist allegedly ditched his white Chevy Silverado nearby and ran. He was last seen wearing a gray tank top, black shorts, and a red hat.
- Three people were arrested in Beaverton, Ore. after police said they stole beer and pizza from a brewpub in Beaverton before crashing into a credit union under construction while trying to flee. According to the Beaverton Police Department, two suspects stole the items from Von Ebert Brewing in the Timberland Town Center on Northwest Cedar Falls Drive at about 8:15 p.m. They then got into a white Ford Mustang driven by a third person.
Police said the driver lost control while turning out of the parking lot and crashed into the Oregon State Credit Union on Northwest Lost Springs Terrace. The credit union is under construction and has not yet opened.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless driving. The two passengers were arrested on suspicion of third-degree theft.
- In South Whitehall Township, Penn., around 2:06 a.m., police and the Greenawalds Fire Department responded to the Lehigh Valley Educators Credit Union on Hamilton Boulevard in South Whitehall Township after a vehicle drove through the building’s wall.
Police said the rescue assignment was requested after officers on scene confirmed that one occupant was trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters opened a wall into an adjacent office area and removed the driver’s side door. The occupant was safely extracted and transferred to EMS personnel for medical evaluation, according to authorities.
