Which Credit Union Delivers the Most Value to Members? Here’s Who Callahan’s Ranks as #1

WATERLOO, Iowa – Veridian Credit Union has ranked No. 1 among all U.S. credit unions in Callahan & Associates’ Return of the Member Index, a national measurement the company said is designed to evaluate how effectively credit unions deliver value to their members.

The quarterly ranking uses credit unions’ regulatory call report data to assess the value provided by credit unions across the U.S. Veridian is ranked No. 1 for the second quarter of 2026.

“This recognition is especially meaningful because it reflects that we’re staying true to our purpose, helping our members build stronger financial futures and providing value that lasts,” Veridian President and CEO Renee Christoffer said in a statement. “As a member-owned cooperative, these efforts are core to our mission, and I’m grateful we have such a meaningful way to measure that impact.”

Three Key Areas Measured

According to the organizations, the Return of the Member Index evaluates performance in three key areas: value for savers, value for borrowers and member service usage. It assigns a numerical score to each credit union, allowing for easy comparison among credit unions and tracking of performance over time.

The $9.15-billion Veridian said it consistently ranks in the top 1% of U.S. credit unions on the Return of the Member Index and has ranked in the top 10 since the fourth quarter of 2022.

“The last time Veridian ranked No. 1 was in a streak of seven consecutive quarters from the fourth quarter of 2017 to second quarter of 2019,” VCU said in a statement. “Veridian is the only credit union based in Iowa, Nebraska or Minnesota to rank No. 1 on the Return of the Member Index within the last five years

Veridian has approximately 380,000 members.
