FRANKENMUTH, Mich. — Community leaders broke ground here on the new Frankenmuth Credit Union Sports Complex, a facility spanning more than 100,000 square feet designed to host year-round athletic programs, tournaments, and community events.
Located on Keystone Way, the facility will host youth and adult leagues, athlete training, and regional events. Organizers anticipate the sports complex will open by the end of 2027.
The interior layout is configured for multiple athletic uses, according to the organizations.
“It will have six basketball courts that turn into 12 volleyball courts or 18 pickleball courts. You can also use the space for any mat sports,” said Jamie Furbush, president and CEO of the Frankenmuth Chamber of Commerce. “I think the lobby is going to be really fun. The Wallace and Irene Bronner Family Foundation is the major sponsor of the lobby area, so you’ll get those hints of things that are uniquely Frankenmuth.”
Goal is to Drive Tourism
Furbush noted that while the complex will serve local residents, it was developed primarily to drive regional tourism.
“It started as a tourism economic development project, the intention to bring new reasons for people to visit our destination,” the chamber president said. “We’re really excited to be able to host tournaments and a whole new generation of visitors here in Frankenmuth, but also throughout the entire Great Lakes Bay Region. It’s a project that we think will impact not only Frankenmuth, but a lot of our surrounding communities as well.”
The $1.58-billion Frankenmuth CU has approximately 79,000 members.
