RALEIGH, N.C. — Coastal Credit Union has signed a seven-year partnership to become the official credit union of Carolina Athletics, with plans for financial education, student-athlete community service and new experiences for University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill fans, the credit union said.
The $6.2-billion Coastal CU said the agreement builds on its more than 30-year relationship with UNC students and will include financial wellness programs, community initiatives and athletics promotions for students, alumni, credit union members and fans.
“Carolina Athletics gives us a powerful platform to put financial education into action and extend our community impact across North Carolina,” CCU President and CEO Tyler Grodi said in a statement. “We’ll help students build skills for their financial futures while creating meaningful gameday experiences for our members and Tar Heel fans.”

Programs for Student-Athletes
Coastal CU said student-athletes will participate in programs promoting financial literacy, community service and preparation for life beyond competition. Student-athlete influencer marketing campaigns will also share financial wellness and service messages through digital storytelling and social media.
The partnership will include game-day experiences, year-round digital content, community programs and venue advertising. Coastal also plans to develop member affinity programs featuring Carolina branding.
“Coastal’s record of advancing financial well-being and investing in North Carolina communities makes them a strong new partner for Carolina Athletics,” said Rick Barakat, deputy athletic director and chief revenue officer. “Together, we can reach fans across the state with impactful marketing concepts and meaningful experiences as we bring this sponsorship to life.”
Coastal CU has more than 300,000 members.
