With Price of Gas More Than $6.50/Gallon in San Francisco, SF Fire Offers High-Rate MMA, Card Rewards on Gas, EV Charging

SAN FRANCISCO– With the average price of gas up 40% from a year ago, and with California drivers paying an average of $6.31 per gallon (San Francisco has averaged  $6.52),  SF Fire Credit Union has announced that on new money in a Money Market Account it is paying 4.35% APY through year-end (4.60% for active & retired fire department employees), while eligible credit cardholders earn 7.5x points on gas & EV charging purchases from Nov 1-31.

“We’ve been serving our members for 75 years, and we wanted to mark the anniversary with savings they would feel in their everyday lives,” Robert Kassab, President and CEO of SF Fire Credit Union said in a statement. “Most people fill up their tank or charge their car every week, so it felt right to make that spending work harder for them. The same goes for earning more interest on their savings. These promotions are our way of putting the credit union’s success back in our members’ hands.”

The credit union said new money deposited into a Money Market Account from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31 earns a 4.35% APY. This applies to existing members and new accounts. For members who already had a Money Market Account, their balance as of Sept. 30, 2026, continues to earn the standard Money Market rate of 2.00% APY.

Special Rate Bump

As part of the promotion, qualifying active and retired fire department employees receive a special 0.25% rate bump during the same period, bringing their rate to 4.60% APY on eligible new money. Their existing balance as of Sept. 30 continues to receive the standard 0.10% rate bump.

Eligible SF Fire Platinum Visa® credit cardholders will receive 7.5 total rewards points per $1 spent on qualifying gas/service station and EV charging purchases from Nov. 1, 2026, through Jan. 31, 2027, the credit union stated.

Participation is automatic for existing eligible cardholders, with no enrollment required. New eligible cardholders can participate after opening and activating their card, provided qualifying purchases are made during the promotional period.

‘Relevant to the Members’

“These reward categories reflect everyday spending SF Fire Credit Union knows is relevant to their members, particularly the cost of commuting, filling up, and charging up,” according to SF Fire. “With gas and energy costs continuing to put pressure on household budgets, the promotion gives members more value back on purchases they’re already making regularly. It’s a practical way to reward an existing habit and provide a little more value where members can feel it.”
