Wellby Financial Breaks Ground on New HQ; Land of Lincoln CU Opens Administrative Office

HOUSTON — Two credit unions have made moves when it comes to new office space.

In Texas, Wellby Financial Credit Union has broken ground on a $52-million, five-story, 102,246-square-foot headquarters in the Houston Bay Area, a project intended to consolidate administrative operations and accommodate future membership growth, according to the Business Journal.

The new campus will occupy 9.5 acres at 19130 Gulfbrook Drive near Baybrook Mall and Interstate 45. It will include a member branch, parking garage, training and collaboration areas, and indoor and outdoor gathering spaces, according to the credit union.

Wellby said the building will have capacity for more than 500 people and allow it to bring together administrative employees currently spread across nine locations. The consolidation is expected to improve coordination, collaboration and staff development.

“We are building for our next 65 years with members at the center of every decision,” President and CEO Marty Pell said in a statement. “This will be a new place to prosper — one designed to help our team members do their best work, strengthen how we serve members, and carry Wellby’s purpose forward for generations to come.”

Part of Broader Expansion

The credit union said the project is part of its strategy to expand across Greater Houston and reach a goal of helping 150,000 members prosper by 2030. It described the investment as a long-term asset supported by its financial position, but did not disclose a project cost.

Wellby acquired the Baybrook Center property in 2024. Construction is slated to begin in October, with completion targeted for October 2028.

“The Bay Area has been part of Wellby’s story from the beginning, and it will continue to be an important part of our future,” Pell said, noting the credit union has served communities in the region since 1961.

Project partners include La Macchia Group for strategic advisory and site selection; Colliers Houston for the land transaction and brokerage; Powers Brown Architecture for design; Griffin Partners for development; and Harvey Cleary as general contractor.

New Office in Illinois

Separately, in Decatur, Ill., Land of Lincoln Credit Union has announced that its new administrative office and branch, located at 3035 E. Mound Road in Decatur, is now open.

Construction began on the new facility, the former location of a Veterans Affairs Medical Clinic vacant since 2018, around 12 months ago.

With this branch now open, LLCU said will permanently close the pre-existing the Mound Road branch.

This new facility will include video teller machines, extended drive-up hours, and will also house LLCU internal operations personnel.

“LLCU is now just a few short months away from our 80th Anniversary of serving Central Illinois,” President and CEO Robert Ares told WAND. “We have grown from a single location in Decatur to now having 15 branches throughout 10 different cities. Before this building, most of our operational departments were scattered, which hampered our ability to serve members efficiently. Placing our operations together under one roof creates better efficiency, more synergy, more potential for hiring, all while beautifying an unsightly vacant property within the city.”
