MIDDLETOWN, Ohio – MyUSA Credit Union has been recognized by the Ohio Credit Union League with its Desjardins Financial Education Award, which honors credit unions that go above and beyond to support the personal financial education of local members of the community.
Financial literacy is a key component of the credit union mission, and today’s award recognizes MyUSA’s excellence in ensuring the local community and local residents have the financial tools and resources to meet their financial goals.
“It’s an honor to receive this award for MyUSA’s commitment to financial education,” says says Jim Miles, CEO. “By going all in on financial education, our team is helping Ohioans achieve more and setting the stage for lifetime success as we teach students vital money management skills through our Adopt-a-Class program, school district partnerships and other initiatives.”
“Credit unions like MyUSA Credit Union demonstrate every single day the deep commitment to community and financial well-being that makes our Movement unique. This award is a well deserved recognition of MyUSA’s continued commitment to making our state stronger and its members’ lives better,” said Paul Mercer, President of the Ohio Credit Union League.
Every year, the Ohio Credit Union League receives numerous applications from credit unions across the state for the Desjardins Financial Education Award, highlighting their efforts to promote financial literacy. A judging committee reviews the applications and selects the winners based on their applications.
The Desjardins Financial Education Award is named in honor of Alphonse Desjardins, who was a credit union pioneer instrumental in forming the Canadian and U.S. credit union movements. Besides helping to found the first credit unions in Canada and the U.S., Desjardins pioneered youth savings clubs and in-school “banks,” known as caisses scolaires.
