GECU Joins in Celebration of Army’s 250th Birthday

EL PASO, Texas–GECU joined forces with the Joint Modernization Command to celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States Army with a ceremonial cake-cutting at the El Paso Chihuahuas.

The tribute took place in the Santa Fe Pavilion at Southwest University Park at the conclusion of the third inning.

A time-honored tradition, the Army Birthday Cake Cutting ceremony featured Joint Modernization Commander, Brigadier General Hibner and Vietnam Veteran Staff Sergeant Roberto Garza Sr. in attendance slicing the cake together with a ceremonial sword – symbolizing the continuity and unity of generations who have served in the U.S. Army since its founding in 1775.

“We are proud to stand with the Joint Modernization Command, Fort Bliss, and the El Paso community to celebrate the Army’s 250 years of service, resilience, and leadership,” Gina Lewis, GECU director of military and veterans affairs, said in a statement.
