CUs Offered New Tools for Better Storytelling; Creating Legacy Videos to Honor Leaders

BOSTON–Laskos Communications is offering credit unions a number of new strategies for becoming much more effective in the job they do in telling their stories, and also offering to work with CUs on creating “Legacy Tribute Videos” for executives who may be retiring or whose contributions simply deserve more recognition.

Led by Walt Laskos, who has more than 40 years in the communications profession, including with the Cooperative Credit Union Association, the company said it brings a “unique perspective on ways to communicate a story – effectively, differently, and memorably.”

Walt Laskos is also the host of the CU Daily’s very popular Daily Cast vide interviews, which can be found here.

Walt Laskos

“By applying his personal knowledge of credit unions gained during his 25 years of service within the system, along with the skills Laskos perfected managing communications and PR for several nonprofit organizations, including a league and corporate credit union, Walt’s insights will energize awareness of your credit union, helping to increase membership and market penetration,” the company said.

A Focus on Storytelling

Laskos Communications said it views storytelling both an art and a muscle.

“The more it is used and exercised, the better your storytelling skills become,” Laskos Communications said.

To help credit unions and their leadership teams become ever more effective in telling the stories that shape and promote awareness of their organizations and their many deeds, Laskos Communications said it offers three distinct programs:

Mastering the Art

“A workshop designed to help you perfect your storytelling skills,” the company said. “You’ll learn how to craft and share powerful brand stories to engage and thrill audiences.”

Through hands-on activities, real-world case studies, and expert guidance, the company said participants will discover how to:

  • Define your credit union brand’s unique narrative and mission.
  • Create authentic, engaging stories that connect with your audience.
  • Use storytelling across different platforms (social media, ads, websites, etc.).
  • Leverage emotions, visuals, and structure; make your message unforgettable.
  • Avoid common pitfalls and craft stories that inspire action.

 Legacy TributeVideos

Celebrate the story of your credit union’s growth and leadership,” the company said. “Honor the remarkable leadership and lasting impact of your retiring CEO with the production of a heartfelt Legacy Tribute Video designed to highlight and memorialize the key accomplishments, visionary guidance, and the transformative influence he or she has had on your organization and the community during an outstanding tenure in the corner office.

“On the other hand, if your credit union is celebrating a milestone anniversary, there’s no better way to mark the occasion and tell the story of your credit union and its contributions throughout the years than by producing a Legacy Tribute Video,” the company added.

Conquer Public Speaking Anxiety

Laskos Communications aid it can help individuals overcome what is the number-one phobia of many people: the fear of public speaking.

“Working with a speaking coach has proven to be an incredibly valuable experience for many wishing to improve their public speaking skills and overall confidence,” Laskos Communications said. “By using a coach, you’ll receive tailored advice, learn to manage stage fright, strengthen your voice, critique your practice speeches, and learn new techniques.”
