WEST JORDAN, Utah–Following a decision that went against it in a lawsuit over its name, the former UFirst Credit Union has now changed its name to Canyon View Credit Union.
When University First Credit Union changed its name to UFirst Credit Union, Utah First Credit Union filed suit, arguing it sometimes used “UFirst” in the market and that the UFirst CU name would create confusion. A court agreed and now, three years after changing its name, the $2-billion UFirst Credit Union has changed its name again, this time to Canyon View Credit Union.

“We are now Canyon View Credit Union—a name that reflects our deep roots as well as a new and exciting path forward,” Canyon View CU said in announcing its new name. “Our name has evolved to set us apart in the market, to celebrate where we come from, and emphasize where we’re headed. We answered a call to grow while remaining deeply rooted in the place and values that have shaped us.
“As we grow into our new brand, our core values of trust, support, and empowerment that have shaped our credit union for nearly 70 years will continue to guide everything we do,” its statement continued. “Our members are at the center of all our goals and decisions.
Canyon View CU has approximately 129,000 members.
There is another UFirst Credit Union in the U.S, which is based in Plattsburgh, N.Y.
