WASHINGTON — The American Association of Credit Union Leagues said it has launched a fully customizable Elder Exploitation Prevention Toolkit aimed at helping credit unions combat rising fraud targeting older adults.
The toolkit, introduced by the League System, is the second in a planned series of five member-focused resources to be released throughout 2026, AACUL said. The toolkits are being offered at no cost to credit unions and are designed to be tailored for member education, staff training and community outreach efforts.

‘Alarming Rate’
Fraud targeting older adults continues to increase at an “alarming rate,” placing vulnerable individuals at greater financial risk, AACUL said, noting that credit unions are often the first line of defense in identifying and preventing such crimes.
“The strength of the league system is a direct result of our intentional collaboration,” AACUL President Brad Miller said in a statement. “By cooperating to underwrite the cost of these resources, leagues are able to offer the toolkits to credit unions free of charge.”
Miller added that combating elder financial abuse is a priority for credit unions and said the toolkit is intended to help institutions of all sizes educate members, equip staff and inform their communities.
According to AACUL, the Elder Exploitation Prevention Toolkit is a comprehensive, ready-to-use resource designed to support efforts to prevent elder financial fraud through increased awareness and frontline preparedness. The materials are fully customizable and can be integrated into communications, training programs and outreach initiatives.
What’s Included
AACUL said the toolkit includes:
- Member-facing educational content to raise awareness
- Social media and outreach materials
- Staff guides, checklists and conversation starters
- Practical tools for frontline teams
Credit unions are encouraged to use the toolkit during June’s Elder Abuse Awareness Month or at other times that align with their outreach strategies, AACUL said.
The organization said the broader toolkit initiative is intended to strengthen the credit union movement’s ability to address critical member needs, beginning with efforts to protect older adults from financial exploitation.
