HOUGHTON, Mich.– Breakwater Federal Credit Union said it has undertaken an extensive renovation project at its main building in response to growing membership.
Built in 1994, the headquarters will receive updated office spaces, technology, and remodeling. These upgrades are in response to a membership that has reached nearly 11,000, the $138-million credit union said.

“We felt that we needed to expand our building,” BFCU President and CEO Paula Megowan told WLUC. “We just need more room for our employees, our staff; a modern place for our members to come in.”
Drive-Through Traffic is Reversed
Megowan says that construction won’t impact hours or services. However, there are a few things to keep in mind. This includes entering the facility’s drive-thru from the opposite direction.
“Instead of coming on Sharon Avenue, you will actually enter our drive-thru through Portage Street,” Megowan continued. “Our parking lot is a little smaller right now due to the construction.”
Megowan told WLUC that parking and drive-thru availability will shift as the project enters different phases, including the drive-thru returning to its normal direction. She anticipates that the project will be completed by springtime.
“We will continue the same great service that our members expect along this construction period,” Megowan added.
