Congress Set to Hold Final Session This Week; NDAA Vote on Agenda

WASHINGTON–Congress will begin its last week of session this week before breaking for the year and heading home.

While numerous issues before the House and Senate will affect credit unions indirectly, the most direct issue of interest is the $900-billion National Defense Authorization Act, which, as the CU Daily reported here, has been passed by both bodies without any inclusion of Durbin–Marshall amendments or other proposals opposed by credit unions.

According to America’s Credit Unions, things to be watching in Congress this week include:

  • Tuesday/Wednesday: The House Financial Services Committee plans to hold a markup of various measures, with regulatory relief and housing legislation impacting credit unions on the docket. The trade group said its advocacy team will engage lawmakers ahead of the markup to encourage support for credit union-backed bills.
  • Tuesday: The Senate Banking Committee will hold a hearing titled, “Ensuring Fair Access to Banking: Policy Levers and Legislative Solutions.”
  • The Senate Commerce Committee will host a hearing on oversight of the FCC.

Report On State Policy Trends

Separately,  America’s Credit Unions 2025 State Policy Report has been released. The report breaks down the top trends and provides an anticipated plan for state advocacy efforts alongside league partners in 2026 related to data privacy, crypto, interchange, and environmental, social, and government (ESG) restrictions, the trade group said.
