WASHINGTON–Credit unions will be backing 55 different candidates in the six states holding primaries today.
America’s Credit Unions said its PAC is supporting 43 candidates in California, two in Iowa, two in Montana, five in New Jersey, two in New Mexico, and one in South Dakota.
“Credit union champion Rep. Young Kim (R-CA) with its first independent expenditure ad campaign of the cycle that included digital advertising and direct mail outreach,” America’s Credit Unions said. “Early and substantial investment helped elevate Kim’s record of service and support for policies that benefit credit unions and their members.”

In support of Rep. Kim, America’s Credit Unions reported its PAC ran a “robust independent expenditure campaign that included digital advertising and direct mail outreach. The organization’s early and substantial investment helped elevate Rep. Kim’s record of service and support for policies that benefit credit unions and their members.”
Sherman Gets Support
In the Golden State, America’s CUs’ PAC and the California Credit Union League are also backing Democrat Rep. Brad Sherman, whom the association said faces a competitive primary as he seeks reelection in California’s 32nd Congressional District. Sherman has received a member communications campaign targeted to credit union members that highlights his “longstanding support for credit unions and his commitment to protecting access to affordable financial services,” the organizations said.
Backing for Utah Candidate
In Utah, meanwhile, Democratic Candidate Ben McAdams is receiving CU support as he runs for newly created District 1. Independent expenditure features direct mail, digital video and radio advertisements, and a dedicated campaign website, America’s CUs said.
“McAdams is seeking to represent a district that is home to one of the most concentrated populations of credit unions in the nation, making the race especially significant for the credit union movement,” the organization added.
‘Leaders Needed’
“Credit unions need leaders in Congress who understand the vital role they play in strengthening local communities, expanding financial opportunity, and serving millions of Americans,” ACU President and CEO Scott Simpson said in a statement. “Working in close partnership with California’s Credit Unions and the Utah Credit Union Association, we are proud to support candidates who have consistently demonstrated their commitment to the credit union movement. Young Kim, Brad Sherman, and Ben McAdams understand the value credit unions bring to consumers and local economies, and they have proven to be strong advocates for policies that help credit unions thrive. As we look ahead to the 120th Congress, electing leaders who support credit unions and their members has never been more important.”
Record-Breaking Expenditures
America’s Credit Unions said that the “challenging political landscape marked by a historic number of open seats and competitive races nationwide” has resulted in the organization making a record-breaking political investment through America’s Credit Unions PAC and the National Advocacy Fund (NAF).
Looking Ahead on Capitol Hill
Separately, the Defense Credit Union Council said it is closely tracking several congressional activities expected this week, including continued House and Senate oversight hearings related to the administration’s budget proposals, and discussions involving the Department of Homeland Security budget.
DCUC said it will also follow Senate Finance Committee discussions involving Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and tax policy matters, including issues impacting the credit union tax status and Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund.
In addition, the House Financial Services Committee is scheduled to hold a hearing with federal prudential regulators this week, and DCUC said it plans to continue pushing for policies that strengthen federal credit union charter authority and regulatory certainty, including issues related to federal preemption and payments policy.
