TALLAHASSEE, Fla, – The Florida Credit Union Association, a subsidiary of The League of Credit Unions, has named former Florida House Speaker Paul Renner as the recipient of its 2024 State Lawmaker of the Year Award in Florida.
“Speaker Renner’s dedication to advancing credit union priorities, particularly Public Deposits legislation in 2024, demonstrates his unwavering commitment to standing alongside credit unions and their members,” Christopher Hodge, senior director of governmental affairs for The League and the Florida Credit Union Association, said in a statement. “His leadership and determination ensured that this issue remained at the forefront of the legislative agenda, and we are deeply grateful for his support.”

The League said Speaker Renner’s parents embodied servant leadership, instilling in him a deep love for community from a young age—his father through his role as a pastor and his mother through her service as a public school teacher. Speaker Renner is dedicated to developing a top-tier education system that equips students for successful careers and promising futures. He embodies a lifetime of service in the United States Navy, state prosecutor, Florida Legislator, and soon to be an appointed member of the Florida State University System’s Board of Governors, it added.
“Supporting the passage of Public Deposits legislation in the 2023 and 2024 legislative sessions was a priority because I believe in the critical role credit unions play in serving our communities and driving financial well-being,” Paul Renner said in a statement. “I am proud to stand with Florida’s credit unions, whose dedication to strengthening communities and empowering members remains essential to our state’s success.”
“Speaker Renner’s support in championing credit unions and their members is truly invaluable. His dedication to advancing Public Deposits legislation highlights his deep commitment to the credit union difference,” shared Samantha A.M.
