Governor Addresses MnCUN Network Rally

SAINT PAUL, Minn.–With the governor making an appearance, the Minnesota Credit Union Network held a rally at the state capitol to celebrate 100 years of credit unions “strengthening communities and securing futures one member at a time.”

Minnesota Credit Union Network President and CEO Mara Humphrey reflected on the six pillars of credit unions that the association said  make them so impactful in Minnesota: “partnership, community, excellence, innovation, respect, and value.”

Addressing the Minnesota Credit Union Network event were Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman, Senate GOP Leader Mark Johnson, and Sen. Judy Seeberger. Speaker Emerita Hortman thanked CUs for “being such good financial citizens of the state and encouraging financial literacy not only amongst your members but also the work you do with high school students, which is especially inspiring.”

‘Both Sides of the Aisle’

Johnson added, “Republicans and Democrats are working on good fiscal policies that could get votes on both sides of the aisle.”

The MCUN said the program underscored the strong support for Minnesota credit unions across both sides of the aisle and demonstrated credit unions and their success as a priority for the legislature.

Additionally, Gov. Tim Walz joined the event and gave an address at the rally during which he spoke in strong support of Minnesota’s credit unions and underscored their positive contributions to local economies across the state.  “You are the pathways to financial stability and financial freedom in your communities.”

Credit Unions Are On Hand

Several Minnesota credit unions were represented in the program, including Blaze Credit Union, TruStone Financial Credit Union, and Arise Community Credit Union. Arise, Minnesota’s newest chartered and first and only Black-led credit union.

“The event was a strong showing of the support credit unions in Minnesota have from their members, communities as a whole, and lawmakers across both sides of the aisle,” the Minnesota Network said.
