ARLINGTON, Va. — The National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors has appointed Salvador Cruz, director of the Idaho Department of Finance, to a one-year term on its Regulator Board, the organization announced.
According to NASCUS, Cruz brings more than 27 years of experience in banking and financial oversight, including more than two decades in federal and state regulatory supervision.
“I am deeply honored to receive the chair’s appointed board seat,” Cruz said in a statement. “I’m excited to bring my passion and perspective to the table as we continue strengthening and supporting the state credit union system together.”

As director of the Idaho Department of Finance, Cruz oversees regulation of 15 industries, including Idaho-chartered banks and credit unions, and helps shape financial regulatory policy in the state, NASCUS said.
‘Strengthen Our Focus’
NASCUS President and CEO Brian Knight said Cruz’s experience and collaborative leadership style will benefit the organization as it addresses issues affecting the state credit union system.
“Salvador’s experience and leadership will strengthen our focus on the priorities most important to the credit union system,” Knight said in a statement.
Before joining the Idaho Department of Finance, Cruz served as a national bank examiner with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, where NASCUS said he led supervisory teams during the financial crisis. His experience also includes overseeing institutional mergers and charter approvals and working with legislators, financial institution boards and industry leaders on state and federal policy issues.
Cruz holds a bachelor’s degree in business economics from South Dakota State University, according to NASCUS.
