MOLINE, Ill.–I.H. Mississippi Valley Credit Union is offering assistance to the more than 2,000 workers who have lost their jobs after Tyson Foods shut down a major beef processing plant in Joslin, Ill.
The sudden shutdown eliminates roughly 2,500 to 2,700 jobs and cuts 3,000 head of daily cattle slaughter capacity in the Midwest, according to media reports. Tyson cited historic lows in national cattle supplies driven by prior years of drought and herd liquidation, and said it is shifting production toward central hubs in Nebraska, Kansas, and Texas.

“If you’ve been impacted by the Tyson Foods closure, we’re here for you,” the $2.3-billion IHMVCU said in a message to members. “We understand a job loss can bring a lot of uncertainty. If you’re an IHMVCU member and a former Tyson Foods employee impacted by the closure, please know you don’t have to navigate the financial side of this alone.
‘You’re Not in This Alone’
“Our team is here to listen, offer guidance and help you explore your options,” the credit union continued. “Depending on your personal situation, we may have options to help with things like financial counseling, retirement, and other financial relief. Every situation is different, and we’ll work with you to understand what options may be available to you.”
I.H. Mississippi Valley urged members to stop by a branch or use its secure chat function.“You’re not in this alone. We’re here to help you figure out what comes next,” the credit union said.
