In Pursuing Repo, One CU Finds Itself a Part of Murder Case

BAY CITY, Mich.—A credit union here has found itself being part of a local case involving a murder.

The case involves the murder of Justie Stilwell. Stilwell was killed in September 2024, and Robert Tweedly has been accused of the murder, dismembering the body, and disposing of the parts in the Saginaw River and another Bay City location.

Bay County Circuit Court Judge Joe Sheeran denied a motion from FinancialEdge Credit Union, which owns Stilwell’s vehicle, stating the credit union has no standing in the criminal case.

Public records indicate that Stilwell owned a 2020 Jeep Trailhawk that was subject to about a $15,000 lien with FinancialEdge Credit Union and that police confiscated the vehicle as part of the investigation

The credit union wants to repossess the car, but the prosecution argues it remains essential as evidence.
