MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.– Google and Klarna said they are expanding their partnership to bring Klarna’s buy now, pay later options to shoppers using Google Pay in AI-driven shopping environments, including Google Search and the Gemini app.
According to a joint statement from the companies, U.S. consumers shopping through Google Search, including AI Mode, or within the Gemini app will be able to select Klarna payment options directly through Google Pay once the integration is completed.

The companies said shoppers will see a Klarna button at checkout and will be able to choose among several payment options, including paying in four interest-free installments and longer-term financing for larger purchases.
David Sykes, chief commercial officer at Klarna, said in the statement that the partnership reflects the growing role of flexible payments in AI-powered shopping experiences.
‘Essential Infrastructure’
“As shopping moves into conversational and AI-driven environments, flexible payments become essential infrastructure for how people buy,” Sykes said.
The integration is being built into Google Pay for checkout on Google platforms powered by the Universal Commerce Protocol, an open-source framework designed to connect artificial intelligence agents with retail systems across the digital shopping process, according to the companies.
Ashish Gupta, vice president and general manager of merchant shopping at Google, said the companies are seeking to align payment options with evolving shopping behaviors driven by AI and conversational commerce.
“As agentic commerce scales, how people pay needs to keep pace with how they shop,” Gupta said in the statement. “By making Klarna’s flexible payment options available at checkout in the Gemini app and Search via Google Pay, we’re giving shoppers more flexibility, so they can make more confident, considered purchases with less friction.”
Builds on Earlier Efforts
The companies noted the move builds on earlier Klarna integrations with Google Pay, Google Store, Google Play and Google Cloud.
Klarna also announced in February that it would support Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol as part of what the company described as a broader push toward interoperable, AI-driven transaction systems.
