More Than 100 CU Leaders Attend Illinois League’s State Legislative Summit

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Illinois Credit Union League convened more than 100 credit union leaders, advocates and partners for its annual State Legislative Summit, drawing 116 attendees representing 53 credit unions and organizations to discuss policy issues affecting the state’s credit unions.

During the summit, the league recognized Margaret Croke and Mark Walker as its 2026 Credit Union Legislative Champions, citing their leadership and advocacy on issues impacting financial institutions and consumers across Illinois. The recognition was presented during a panel focused on the Interchange Fee Prohibition Act, where both lawmakers shared perspectives on legislative priorities.

“Representative Croke and Senator Walker have consistently demonstrated a strong understanding of the credit union difference and the importance of preserving access to affordable financial services,” said Libby Calderone, president and CEO of the Illinois Credit Union League. “Their leadership and willingness to engage on complex policy issues make a meaningful impact on our movement and on the members credit unions serve every day.”

‘An Honor’

Croke said she was honored to receive the recognition.

“It is an honor to be named the Illinois Credit Union League’s Legislator of the Year,” Croke said. “Credit unions are essential partners in building strong and stable communities, expanding access to financial services, supporting working families, and fueling local economic growth. I value our continued partnership and remain committed to advancing policies that support financial opportunity for communities throughout Illinois.”

Walker also emphasized the role of credit unions in the state.

“Credit unions are part of the fabric of Illinois and always focus on the health and growth of their members and communities,” Walker said. “I am happy to support them.”

The summit agenda included updates on interchange, regulatory developments and Community Reinvestment Act issues, as well as electronic lien and title advancements and other emerging legislative topics.

State Regulator in Discussion

The league said it welcomed Mario Treto, secretary of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, who participated in a discussion with Calderone on issues affecting credit unions. Treto expressed appreciation for the league’s ongoing collaboration with the agency.

The event also included visits to the Illinois State Capitol, where participants met with lawmakers to discuss priority issues, followed by an evening legislative reception bringing together credit union advocates and state leaders, the league said.
