More Than 320K Messages Sent to Hill on Tax Status, Says ACU

WASHINGTON–More than 323,000 messages have been sent to Congress as part of the “Don’t Tax My Credit Union” campaign being led by America’s Credit Unions, according to the trade group.

America’s Credit Unions said the messages are being sent as part of its Member Activation Program (MAP) and the Don’t Tax My Credit Union site.

The initiative is taking place as Congress debates the federal budget, including finding ways to offset planned tax cuts.

ACU said providing examples of credit unions effects on members is a key component in this effort, and that it has been leveraging its blog to share stories from leagues and credit unions that “detail several aspects of the Don’t Tax My Credit Union campaign.”

Examples Shared

Among the efforts highlighted:

  • How Mid Oregon Credit Union has used MAP for more than a decade to successfully activate members
  • How AIM Credit Union in Iowa stepped up for a member in need of a business loan, who later became a board member and shared his story with members of Congress to advocate for credit unions.
  • How the credit union tax status helps credit unions offer personalized, member-first services, with leaders from UP Federal Credit Union and Abound Credit Union sharing personal stories of the credit union difference.
