Move Over, Big Boy: Day Air CU Buys 2 Former Restaurant Sites for New Branches

DAYTON, Ohio — Day Air Credit Union plans to build two new branches on the sites of former Frisch’s Restaurants locations in Ohio, expanding its footprint in the Miami Valley/

The $890.6-million credit union said it has purchased properties in Beavercreek and Troy where Frisch’s restaurants previously operated and intends to develop full-service financial centers at both sites, WHIO-TV reported. Frisch’s was the local franchisee for Big Boy restaurants.

Construction is expected to result in:

  • A new Beavercreek branch at 1231 N. Fairfield Road, replacing the credit union’s existing location in the city
  • A first-time presence in Troy, with a branch planned at 20 Troy Town Drive, marking an expansion into Miami County

Both locations are scheduled to open early next year, the report said.

‘Local Decision-Making’

“We’re excited to bring Day Air to the Troy community and introduce more people to the personalized service and local decision-making that set us apart,” President John Theobald said in a statement, adding that the Beavercreek project will provide a more modern and convenient experience for members.

The redevelopment of former restaurant sites reflects a broader trend of financial institutions repurposing vacant retail properties for branch expansion as consumer traffic patterns shift and legacy restaurant chains close underperforming locations.

Day Air Credit Union has been expanding its branch network in recent years as it seeks to grow membership and enhance its physical presence alongside digital banking offerings.
