NCUA Board Meeting Canceled; Agency Mulls Ordered Staff Reductions

ALEXANDRIA, Va.—The NCUA board meeting scheduled for Thursday March 27 has been cancelled. The agency provided no reason for the decision not to hold what was to be its monthly public meeting. The CU Daily has reached out for comment.

NCUA held a closed board meeting on March 21, and sources told the CU Daily the subject of the meeting was the proposal the agency is required to provide to the White House on how it will reduce its staff from its current approximately 1,150 employees. One person told the CU Daily NCUA is identifying approximately 200 people for reductions.

The changes taking place at NCUA and throughout the federal government were mentioned by NCUA Chairman Kyle Hauptman during remarks at the agency’s March annual meeting.

‘Uncertainty Can be Challenging’

“Some of those directives may bring changes to you,” Hauptman said. “All of us at this table understand that change and uncertainty can be challenging for a number of parties.”

Hauptman added the board and agency have been “assessing how these announcements may affect the NCUA, our operations, regulatory structures and our workforce.”

The CU Daily has contacted the agency for comment.
