One Credit Union and Its ATM Just Can’t Get a Brake, Umm, Break

TOLEDO, Ohio–A credit union whose ATMs have been targeted on three other occasions has just been hit again, delaying the reopening of a branch on Dorr Street in Toledo that has been closed for around a year following a car crash and one of the ATM thefts.

In the most recent incident, the $16.8-million Toledo Urban Federal Credit Union’s ATM was struck by a truck, after which an individual tried to pull it apart, according to ABC News 13, which said it is unclear if any cash was stolen.

The credit union told the news outlet that its ATMs have been targeted four times in total, despite various security cameras, metal bars and an alarm system.

Fourth Time is Not a Charm

“This would be our fourth incident,” CEO Suzette Cowell told ABC News 13. “Actually, they tried to steal the ATM with a chain before. The second time, they came back to get the brain of the ATM out. The third time was at our Monroe Street location, where they actually took the ATM machine.”

There was no update on how long the opening of the refurbished office will be delayed.
