BOSTON — Santander is expanding access to artificial intelligence tools across its global workforce as the banking giant pursues a goal of generating more than 1 billion euros (about $1.15 billion) in business value from AI between 2026 and 2028.
According to reporting by PYMNTS Intelligence, the bank said it is extending AI capabilities to all 185,000 employees, up from about 40,000 workers who were already using the technology, effective Monday. The expansion is part of a broader effort to integrate AI into daily operations and improve productivity across the organization, PYMNTS Intelligence reported.

“For many employees, this means using AI in everyday productivity tools to prepare analysis, find information faster, summarize documents, improve customer conversations or simplify internal processes,” Ricardo Martín Manjón, chief data and AI officer at Santander, said in information provided to PYMNTS.
Range of Platforms
According to the report, Santander is deploying a range of AI platforms, including Microsoft Copilot, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, Google’s Gemini, banking solutions from G42 and tools from other technology partners. The bank is also offering employee training, practical guidance and forums where workers can share use cases and best practices.
Santander reported that prior to the companywide rollout, 17,000 employees were already using AI in software development, with AI generating 40% of the bank’s code in June. The bank also said AI models currently process about 100,000 anti-money laundering alerts annually and that more than 280 automated process agents are in production.
The bank began measuring the financial impact of its AI initiatives in 2026 and reported generating 35 million euros (about $40.2 million) in business value during the first quarter, according to PYMNTS Intelligence.
