Securityplus FCU Launches Self-Directed Investment Platform for Members

BALTIMORE — Securityplus Federal Credit Union has launched a self-directed investment platform that allows members to buy investments and manage portfolios directly through the credit union’s digital banking platform.

The new service, called Securityplus Investments, is powered by Eko Investments and is designed to give members access to investing tools alongside their traditional banking accounts, the credit union said.

Members can use the platform to explore investment opportunities and build personalized portfolios. It also includes educational resources and market information intended to help members make investment decisions.

The $600-million Securityplus said the offering expands the credit union’s financial services beyond traditional deposit and lending products and is aimed at making investing more accessible to members at different stages of their financial lives.

‘One Tool Left Out of the Promise’

“For nearly 90 years, our purpose has been to make sure our members have access to the financial tools that build stability and, over time, wealth,” Securityplus President and CEO Mike Barr said in a statement. “Investing has too often been the one tool left out of that promise.”

Barr said integrating the Eko platform into digital banking allows members to begin building investment portfolios from the same place they already conduct their banking.

“Any member can begin building an investment portfolio from the same place they already bank, on their own terms and at a scale that fits their life,” he said.

Part of Broader Effort

Securityplus said the service is part of a broader effort to reduce barriers to investing and provide members with additional opportunities to build long-term wealth and financial resilience.

The credit union said access to investing can help members pursue major financial goals and potentially build generational wealth in addition to accumulating savings.

“Partnering with Eko Investments represents another important step in our commitment to exceed member expectations,” Jeff Gehris, executive vice president and chief strategy and experience officer, said in a statement.

Gehris said embedding investment options within digital banking gives members greater choice and easier access to wealth-building tools.

“At Securityplus, financial empowerment is about more than providing traditional banking products,” Gehris said in a statement. “It is about creating opportunities for our members to confidently take control of their financial lives.”
