Travis CU Launches a 16-Week Program to Help People Re-Enter the Workforce

VACAVILLE, Calif. — Travis Credit Union has launched a 16-week paid return-to-work program aimed at helping experienced professionals who have taken career breaks re-enter the workforce, the credit union announced.

According to the $5.6-billion Travis Credit Union, the “Returnship” program is initially targeting residents of Solano, Contra Costa, Yolo and Napa counties who are ready to resume their careers after time away from the workforce.

Participants will be hired as paid Returnship employees and will receive hands-on work experience, mentorship and professional development while contributing to the credit union’s operations. At the conclusion of the 16-week program, participants may be considered for permanent employment based on organizational needs and mutual fit, while those not hired will leave with additional experience, professional contacts and transition support, the credit union said.

Overcoming ‘Barriers to Opportunity’

“We believe career breaks should never be barriers to opportunity,” Catherine Johnson, chief people officer at Travis Credit Union, said in a statement.

According to the credit union, the program was inspired in part by the experiences of two recent hires — one who left the workforce to care for family members and another who paused their career after a layoff before restarting a job search.

Travis Credit Union said participants in the program will:

  • Gain practical work experience that strengthens their resumes.
  • Receive mentorship and professional development.
  • Build relationships across multiple departments.
  • Explore potential long-term career opportunities with the credit union.

The credit union said the initiative is part of its broader efforts to support workforce development, expand access to careers in financial services and strengthen its talent pipeline while investing in the communities it serves.
