PASADENA, Calif.–In what has become an annual tradition, some Southern Californians were given free coffee on Sunday to help them wake up after an hour of sleep was lost as clocks sprung forward for Daylight Savings Time.
The credit union picked up the tab at select The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf locations in Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
“Now in its eleventh year, our annual Daylight Saving Time tradition of helping people throughout Southern California spring forward holds a special place in our hearts,” VP-Marketing Tamar Atamian said in a statement. “For more than 90 years, Wescom has been a part of the Southern California community, so helping residents here is core to who we are. This is especially true right now because so many in our community have experienced a challenging start to the year, so bringing a smile to people’s faces through this annual #WescomKindness event is even more meaningful.”
$40K Worth of Joe
Beginning when the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf locations opened, Wescom Credit Union covered the costs for $44,000 worth of coffee and tea beverages.
The free beverages were available on a first-come, first-served basis until $2,000 in funds allocated to each of the 22 participating cafés had been exhausted.
In addition to the free beverages at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Wescom offered Southern Californians a chance to win $1,000. The winner is to be chosen randomly from eligible participants.
