‘Who We Are at Our Core’: Vocal CU Receives Los-Income Designation

HELENA, Mont. — Vocal Credit Union said it has received a Low-Income Designation from the National Credit Union Administration and the state of Montana, a move the credit union said will expand its ability to serve members with limited incomes.

The designation is granted to credit unions that serve predominantly low-income populations and reflects a commitment to providing affordable and accessible financial services, according to Vocal Credit Union.

With the designation, the credit union said it becomes eligible for additional resources, including grants and low-cost funding through programs such as the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund, as well as greater flexibility in accepting non-member deposits.

“This designation reflects who we are at our core,” CEO Eddie Black said in a statement released by Vocal Credit Union. “We believe that financial services should be inclusive, empowering, and accessible to all.”

Expanded Services

Vocal Credit Union said the designation will support an expansion of services, including:

  • Affordable lending options tailored to a range of financial needs
  • Financial education and coaching programs
  • Expanded community partnerships and outreach initiatives

Black added that recognition by both federal and state authorities underscores the institution’s focus on supporting financial stability for its members and the broader Helena community.

Vocal Credit Union said it plans to continue investing in programs and services aimed at strengthening the financial well-being of the communities it serves.
