After Big Jump in June, Lending at Credit Unions Slowed During July

WASHINGTON–Led by members tapping the equity in their homes, credit union loans outstanding increased 0.25% in July, compared in 1.26% increase in June and a 0.26% increase in July 2025, according to America’s Credit Unions’ latest Monthly Credit Union Estimates. 

The estimates are generated from the Equifax Analytics Dataset (an anonymized random sample of credit report data that tracks 10% of all U.S. consumers with a Social Security number), according to the organization.

America’s Credit Unions reported leading loan growth during the months were 

  • Home equity lines of credit: 1.39%
  • Credit cards: 0.77%
  • Auto loans: 0.51%
  • Secured personal loans: 0.42%
  • Second mortgages: 0.34%

On the decline were:

  • Unsecured personal loans: -1.94%
  • Private student loans: -0.95%
  • First mortgages: -0.6%
