After Disparaging Remark Goes Viral, Security Service FCU Responds With Billboard

SAN ANTONIO–After a disparaging remark went viral earlier this year, Security Service FCU has responded with a billboard that leverages the backlash that followed.

In March, an unidentified woman was caught on video responding to a text about “crazy Hispanic fans” attending a San Antonio Spurs game by saying, “All Hispanic! How can they afford it,” according to Axios. The video was viewed more than five million times and sparked backlash online and prompted the Spurs to reaffirm their support for the Latino community, Axios said.

Since then, San Antonio has largely responded with humor — from merch to an in-game skit by the Spurs Coyote, Axios added.

Now, Security Service FCU has erected a billboard that reads “UNOFFICIAL CREDIT UNION OF CRAZY HISPANIC FANS.”

“We couldn’t love it more,” SSFCU spokesperson Brandy Ralston-Lint told Axios in a statement. “Fans are embracing this as a badge of pride, reclaiming ‘crazy’ to mean unwavering loyalty, family tradition, and generational devotion to the team.”
