ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Alaska Credit Union League said nearly $2.2 million will be distributed to more than two dozen nonprofit organizations across the state through funding that includes a matching grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines Member Impact Fund.
The league said the combined $2,191,350 contribution will support organizations providing services ranging from youth programs and assistance for military families to financial empowerment, homelessness prevention and community development.
“Supporting Alaska communities has always been central to our mission, and this opportunity allowed us to extend that support even further,” Tim Sullivan, president of the Alaska Credit Union League, said in a statement. “Working with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines multiplied our giving and helps local nonprofit organizations continue making a meaningful difference across Alaska.”
Organizations That Received Support
Organizations receiving support include Abused Women’s Aid in Crisis, Alaska Business Week, Alaska Children’s Trust, Alaska Coalition to Homelessness, Alaska Development Corp., Alaska Healing Hearts, Alzheimer’s Resource of Alaska, Armed Services YMCA of Alaska, Beacon Hill, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska and Cook Inlet Lending Center.
Other recipients are Covenant House Alaska, Data for Indigenous Justice, Fairbanks Youth Advocates, Family Promise Mat-Su, Food Bank of Alaska, Frontline Mission, JAHMI, Kids Kupboard, Kodiak Kindness, Literacy Council of Alaska, Reach 907, REACH, Southeast Alaska Independent Living, Southeast Conference, Special Olympics of Alaska and Valley Performing Arts.
What’s Demonstrated
The league said the funding demonstrates how partnerships between credit unions and organizations such as the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines can increase financial support for community organizations.
The Member Impact Fund provides matching grants to support affordable housing and community development initiatives in areas served by FHLB Des Moines member financial institutions.
The Alaska Credit Union League represents 10 credit unions operating in the state: Alaska District Engineers Federal Credit Union, Credit Union 1, Global Federal Credit Union, MAC Federal Credit Union, Matanuska Valley Federal Credit Union, Northern Skies Federal Credit Union, NuVision Federal Credit Union, Spirit of Alaska Federal Credit Union, Tongass Federal Credit Union and True North Federal Credit Union.
