America’s Credit Unions Launches Resource Hub Aimed at Preventing Fraud, Strengthening Cybersecurity

WASHINGTON — America’s Credit Unions has launched an online resource hub it said is mean to help credit unions prevent fraud, strengthen cybersecurity and manage vendor risk, the association announced.

The Cybersecurity, Fraud, and Vendor Risk Resources hub includes articles, toolkits and educational opportunities to help credit unions educate members and staff about prevention and incident response, according to the association.

The launch coincides with October’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month, but America’s Credit Unions said protecting the 146 million Americans served by credit unions remains a year-round priority.

“With fraud impacting millions of Americans and costing the U.S. billions of dollars each year, our focus is on supporting our membership with timely information and guidance to protect themselves and their members,” Meghan Small, chief communications and marketing officer, said in a statement.

Small said the hub will be part of an ongoing effort to help credit unions protect their operations and members against fraud and cybersecurity incidents.

Resources In Three Areas

According to America’s Credit Unions, the hub organizes resources around three priorities:

  • Protecting members by helping them recognize scams and practice safer financial habits.
  • Preparing teams by building awareness of fraud, cybersecurity and incident response.
  • Shaping policy by advocating for stronger fraud prevention tools and modern reporting rules.

America’s Credit Unions said that through the end of the year it will highlight available resources through targeted emails and social media posts.

Member credit unions also have direct access to the association’s compliance team for assistance with federal compliance issues, with responses usually provided within one business day, the trade group said.
