WASHINGTON—America’s Credit Unions said it is partnering with the American Association of Credit Union Leagues and America Saves on a new consumer education campaign aimed at raising awareness of check fraud, which the organizations said remains one of the fastest-growing forms of financial fraud.
The campaign, “Check Yourself: Stop Check Fraud Before It Starts,” is designed to help consumers better understand how check fraud occurs, how to protect themselves and what steps to take if they become victims. It also includes educational resources credit unions can use to educate members, according to America’s Credit Unions.

The month-long initiative begins Aug. 3 and will feature weekly themes supported by a variety of educational materials, including:
- Newsletter content
- Social media graphics
- Videos
- Blog posts
- Additional educational resources
The Schedule
According to America’s Credit Unions, the campaign will focus on the following topics:
- Week 1 (Aug. 3-7): What is Check Fraud?
- Week 2 (Aug. 10-14): Types of Check Fraud
- Week 3 (Aug. 17-21): Check Fraud Detection
- Week 4 (Aug. 24-28): What to Do if You’re a Victim of Check Fraud
America’s Credit Unions said participating credit unions are encouraged to use the campaign’s social media toolkit and other educational materials to help inform members about check fraud risks and prevention strategies throughout August.
The organizations said the campaign is intended to increase public awareness of check fraud while providing consumers with practical information on recognizing scams and protecting themselves from financial losses.
