BIRMINGHAM, Ala.— AmFirst Credit Union has named Alan Walker as Vice President, Head of Construction & Facilities Management.
In this role, Walker will lead AmFirst’s Capital Improvement Strategy, overseeing the planning, development, new construction, and renovations, and facilities for AmFirst.

Walker brings more than 15 years of experience in construction, capital project execution, and organizational leadership from both the private and public sectors. Most recently, he served as Director of the City of Birmingham’s Department of Capital Projects, where he provided executive-level leadership over one of the City’s most critical departments. In this role, he provided strategic and operational oversight for the planning, budgeting, permitting, and new construction of all city-led facilities and infrastructure projects. His department was also responsible for all maintenance of city-owned infrastructure, facilities, and other critical public assets throughout Birmingham.
“Alan brings an impressive combination of construction expertise, strategic leadership, and knowledge of the communities we serve,” said Kevin Morris, President and CEO of AmFirst. “As we continue to grow, we must be able to bring a multi-disciplined approach to how we serve our members. Alan will lean on his knowledge, first-hand member experience, and deep relationships to have an immediate return on our investment as we continue investing in our branch network and maintain our current facilities. I am excited about Alan joining the team and for the important role he will play in our future strategic initiatives.”
Prior to joining the City of Birmingham, Walker spent more than a decade in the private sector, including leadership roles with Encompass Health, where he helped oversee preconstruction efforts supporting a capital project strategy exceeding $500 million during a period of rapid growth. Walker was involved with the full life cycle of capital development, including site selection, due diligence, design, and construction of new hospitals, expansions, renovations, and other special projects across the country for Encompass. Earlier in his career, Walker gained invaluable “hands-on” construction experience through various preconstruction and project management roles with several leading Birmingham-based general contractors.
“I’m excited to join AmFirst at such an important time in the credit union’s growth,” Walker said. “I’ve spent my career in Birmingham connecting with people, planning, and bringing about organizational efficiency to create spaces that serve an organization’s long-term needs. I look forward to working with the AmFirst team to support our existing facilities, thoughtfully plan for future locations, and ensure our physical spaces are ‘best in class’ to continue to serve the needs of our members, employees, and communities.”
Walker is a graduate of Auburn University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction in 2010. He is also active in the Birmingham-area community through his local church and organizations such as Leadership Vestavia, Mountain Brook Community Church, and the Associated Builders and Contractors of Alabama.
