APPLE VALLEY, Minn. — Wings Credit Union will donate $60 to The Food Group for every 3-pointer the Minnesota Lynx make during the WNBA playoffs, tripling its regular-season contribution as the team begins its playoff run Sunday, the credit union said.
The pledge extends Hoops for Hunger, a partnership among Wings, the Lynx and The Food Group to support Minnesota families facing food insecurity. Wings said the Lynx made 406 3-pointers during the regular season, generating $8,120 for the food assistance organization at $20 per basket.
“Tripling our donation for the playoffs is a way to celebrate this incredible team while helping more Minnesota families access the nutritious food they need,” said Sarah Manes, Wings’ director of philanthropic engagement.
Adds ‘Meaning’
Lynx guard Kayla McBride, who Wings said set a WNBA record this season for the most 3-pointers in a single game, said the pledge adds meaning to the team’s playoff run.
“Knowing that every 3-pointer we make in the playoffs is helping support families in our community adds another level of meaning to what we’re doing on the court,” McBride said.
Sophia Lenarz-Coy, executive director of The Food Group, said demand for food assistance is at an all-time high and the additional funding will help families obtain nutritious, culturally connected food.
