Another CU Alerts Members to a Potential Data Breach

OXFORD, Ala.–AOD Federal Credit Union has alerted members and regulators to a data security incident it said potentially involves members personal information.

According to a report submitted to the Texas Attorney General’s Office, and to a statement on its own website, AOD FCU said it identified the breach on Aug. 8-9, 2024 and discovered breach may have exposed one or more of the following: Social Security Number, date of birth, bank/financial account number, routing number, credit and/or debit card number, driver’s license/government ID number, clinical or treatment information, health insurance member ID and/or group number, and Taxpayer Identification

It said the FBI has been investigating.

The announcement comes at the same time several other credit unions have recently filed notices of breaches, including Cross Valley FCU in Pennsylvania a/and Lafayette FCU in Maryland.

In a statement on its website, the $433.6-million AOD FCU has alerted members and said it moved immediately secure the environment and commenced a prompt and thorough investigation. 

‘Extensive Forensic Investigation’

“After an extensive forensic investigation and manual document review, AODFCU discovered on March 4, 2025, that an unauthorized actor may have accessed and/or acquired certain files containing personal information between August 8, 2024, and August 9, 2024,” the credit union informed members. “We have no evidence that any of your information has been used for identity theft or financial fraud as a result of this incident. Nevertheless, we wanted to make potentially impacted individuals aware of the incident and provide information on steps these individuals can take to safeguard their information, including placing a Fraud Alert and Security Freeze on their credit files, obtaining free credit reports, and remaining vigilant in reviewing financial account statements and credit reports for fraudulent or irregular activity on a regular basis. We are also offering affected individuals whose Social Security numbers were potentially impacted by the incident with complimentary credit monitoring services…”

AOD FCU has approximately 38,000 members.

Additional Warnings

Its website also cautions members about fraudulent transactions on Walmart.com—which another Alabama credit union has reported—and of text and phone scams targeting members.
