MIRAMAR, Fla. —Not surprising, given the price per gallon: gas giveaways remaining popular as credit union promotions.
Tropical Financial Credit Union said it has partnered with WPLG Local 10 News to launch a gas-card giveaway aimed at helping South Florida drivers cope with higher fuel costs, according to a statement from the credit union.
The Miramar-based credit union said it donated $2,500 in gas cards to the television station for the “Prize at the Pump” promotion, which awarded fuel assistance to viewers facing increased expenses at the gas pump.

‘Tough Choices’
“Every day, people across South Florida are making tough choices just to get through their week — and filling up the tank has become one of the most painful ones,” Richard Shaw, president and CEO of Tropical Financial Credit Union, said in the statement. “We wanted to find a way to help, even in a small way, so we partnered with Local 10 on a gas-card giveaway to put some money back in people’s pockets and let them know they’re not in this alone.”
According to Tropical Financial, Local 10 promoted the campaign during the week of May 25, inviting viewers to enter for a chance to win a $100 gas card. During the following week, five winners were selected each day and announced during the station’s 6 a.m. newscast, for a total of 25 winners.
Tropical Financial said the initiative reflects its mission as a member-owned credit union to support the financial well-being of its members and the broader community.
Even a Little Relief Makes Difference
“Even a little relief can make a difference, and we want people to know we’re here for them,” Shaw said.
The credit union noted that it has partnered with Local 10 on a number of community-focused efforts in South Florida, including the annual Day of Giving each November and the Big Bus Toy Express program in December.
