BENTON, Ark.–High gas prices have added extra fuel to gas-related giveaways.
The latest example: Drivers lined up for a giveaway sponsored by Hurricane Creek FCU, which hosted its “Summer Fill-Up Event” at a Circle K in Benton, giving away 120 free $25 gas cards to community members.

The giveaway drew a line that wrapped around the gas station, with all 120 cards claimed within 20 minutes, Fox16 reported.
“Ahhhh, I’m so excited, I’m so excited, I’m so happy,” driver Kayla Benson said after receiving a card, the report said. It added that another driver, Sheila Trice, said she almost missed out. “Just call me lucky,” Trice said. “I asked if there were any more, and they said, ‘Yeah, one more.’ I said, ‘Whoop, let me get over.”
Helping People
“It’s going to help a lot of people put food on their table or pay bills that maybe they’ve been struggling to pay,” Andrew Pickett, president of the $74-million credit union told the news outlet.
Some drivers planned to save the card for later trips, while others headed straight for the pumps, Fox 16 reported.
As the CU Daily recently reported here, SUN Credit Union in Florida also hosted a gas giveaway that drew strong interest.
