TUCSON, Ariz.– The National Council of Firefighter Credit Unions announced at its conference here that it is changing its name to the National Council of First Responder Credit Unions (NCOFCU), “marking a significant milestone as the organization celebrates its 25th anniversary.”
The organization said the name change reflects its expanded mission to support credit unions serving not only firefighters, but also law enforcement, emergency medical services (EMS), and the broader first responder community.

“For 25 years, we have proudly supported firefighter credit unions and the leaders who serve them,” Founder/CEO Grant Sheehan said in a statement. “As our members have grown and evolved, so have we. This new name reflects the full community we are committed to serving. Those who serve on the front lines every day.”
The Focus
Since its founding, the association said it has focused on equipping volunteer directors, executives, and staff with the education, leadership development, and collaborative opportunities needed to strengthen credit unions serving first responders and their families.
“This is not a departure from our roots, it is an expansion of our mission,” Sheehan added. “Firefighter credit unions remain at the heart of who we are. We are building on that foundation to support all first responder credit unions with the same commitment to leadership, education, and impact.”
The new National Council of First Responder Credit Unions said it will continue to provide its signature programs, including leadership training, governance education, and industry collaboration, while expanding resources to meet the evolving needs of its growing membership.
