MENLO PARK, Calif.–Meta’s personal artificial intelligence assistant, Muse, surpassed 10 million downloads in the United States and Canada during its first 35 days of availability, according to digital market insights platform Sensor Tower.
The pace exceeded that of ChatGPT, Claude and Grok, each of which took more than 100 days to reach 10 million downloads, Sensor Tower Vice President of Insights Seema M. Shah told Bloomberg in a video the company shared Monday on LinkedIn.

Those competing assistants launched globally, while Muse is available only in the U.S. and Canada, Shah said. She cautioned that ChatGPT debuted when artificial intelligence was less familiar to consumers.
“There’s been a huge interest in Muse and these personal agents versus the direct chatbots,” Shah said.
23% Retention Rate
Muse’s U.S. retention rate after 14 days was 23%, compared with 17% for Anthropic’s Claude at its launch, according to Sensor Tower. Retention measures whether people continue using an application after initially downloading it.
Despite its rapid download growth, Muse trails ChatGPT substantially in active users. Shah said Muse has about 2 million active users in the U.S., compared with 55 million for ChatGPT.
Future usage and engagement will help determine whether Muse’s early momentum lasts, she said. “It’s still pretty early to say,” Shah said.
Meta launched Muse in the U.S. on Sept. 8, describing it as a personal AI agent designed to be simple to use and “built for everyone.” Ten days later, it reached No. 1 on Apple’s App Store chart, passing ChatGPT.
