Brothers Sentenced in Robbery at CU Where 1 Had Once Worked; Robber Armed With ‘Power of Jesus Christ’ Can’t be Saved from Prison

BOSTON — Two Massachusetts brothers were each sentenced to four months in prison for staging a robbery that netted nearly $200,000 from the credit union where one worked as a teller, while in Alaska, a man who robbed a credit union in the “name of Jesus” has pleaded guilty.

In Massachusetts, Jenel Flounoury, 30, and Justin Flounoury, 34, both of Brockton, also were sentenced to three years of supervised release and ordered to jointly pay $197,146 in restitution. Each pleaded guilty in July to conspiracy to commit larceny from a credit union, according to WWLP.

Charging documents said the brothers planned the Sept. 24, 2024, robbery of Energy Credit Union in West Roxbury, where Jenel worked.

Justin arranged to leave his South Boston job early and get a ride to the credit union, WWLP reported. Wearing dark clothing, sunglasses, a hat and a mask, he approached Jenel’s teller window and handed him a note reading, “Hand it Over.”

Instead of giving Justin the limited cash in his teller drawer, Jenel entered the vault, placed $197,146 in a bag and handed it to his brother, according to charging documents cited by WWLP.

Justin fled and returned to the home the brothers shared. Cellphone location records corroborated his movements, according to the report.

Witnesses later saw the brothers burning dark clothing on a grill at their home consistent with what Justin wore during the robbery. Investigators searching the residence recovered more than $160,000, including 10 $100 bills with serial numbers matching those recorded by credit union employees before the theft.

The brothers were arrested the following night and indicted by a federal grand jury in January 2025.

Man Who Robbed in Name of Jesus is Sentenced

Separately, in Alaska, an Anchorage man who prosecutors said robbed a credit union using a note claiming he was armed with the “power & authority of Jesus Christ” has pleaded guilty in federal court.

Deshalon Bosha Jelks pleaded guilty to one count of credit union robbery without a plea agreement. His sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 21.

Prosecutors said Jelks handed the note to a teller at the Credit Union 1 branch on Debarr Road near Bragaw Street on Feb. 26 and left with about $1,701, according to KTUU. Police followed a tracking device included with the stolen cash to a Costco across the street, where they arrested Jelks.

During an interview at Anchorage Police Department headquarters, officers noticed Jelks was wearing an ankle monitor. He told them he had a previous state charge, KTUU reported.

Jelks acknowledged entering the credit union and asking for money. He also admitted telling the teller he was armed with the authority of Jesus Christ but denied claiming to possess a physical weapon, according to the report. He initially denied receiving any money; despite telling investigators he desperately needed it.
