VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.–– Virginia Business and Virginia Lawyers Weekly have named Melissa Moffa, chief risk officer and general counsel for Chartway Credit Union, a 2026 In-House Counsel Awards honoree. She is one of 31 attorneys from across Virginia selected for this year’s recognition.
The In-House Counsel Awards recognize attorneys who navigate complex negotiations, represent their organizations in high-stakes litigation, protect important organizational assets, and serve as leaders in Virginia’s in-house legal community. Honorees are selected by an internal committee based on documented professional accomplishments, community service, and mentorship.

As Chartway’s chief risk officer and general counsel, Moffa oversees the credit union’s legal, compliance, enterprise risk management, BSA/AML, fraud, collections, information security, corporate real estate, and facilities teams. She also leads commercial lending risk oversight and due diligence efforts that support Chartway’s continued growth and strategic initiatives.

This recognition follows Moffa’s selection as a 2025 Virginia Business Forty Under 40 honoree. She was in the inaugural class of the program which recognizes emerging business leaders based on their professional accomplishments, community service, and commitment to inspiring change.
