VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Virginia Business has selected Rebecca Riordan, chief people & culture officer of Chartway Credit Union, as a 2025 Women in Leadership Awards recipient.

The “Women in Leadership Awards” celebrate top women executives for their overall professional accomplishments, civic engagement, mentorship and breaking glass ceilings. The honorees, selected by the Virginia Business leadership team, have consistently demonstrated remarkable leadership and integrity and make an impact on their community and/or Virginia as a whole.

“True leadership is about creating space for others to succeed,” said Riordan in a statement. “At Chartway, we’ve fostered a culture where purpose drives performance and inclusion fuels innovation. This recognition reflects the incredible work our team does every day to unlock the potential of our members so they can thrive. I am extremely honored to be recognized among so many impactful leaders in Virginia.”

“The 2025 Women in Leadership honorees are exemplary executives who are making significant contributions to their organizations and communities as trailblazing mentors who are encouraging future generations of professional women to pursue their own paths and ambitions,” Richard Foster, associate publisher of Virginia Business, said in a statement. “We at Virginia Business are pleased to recognize these transformational leaders.”

With more than 40 years of leadership experience, Chartway FCU said Riordan is recognized for creating environments where individuals are seen, supported, and empowered to do their best work. She has served as Chartway’s chief people & culture officer since 2020, is a board director for the Chartway Promise Foundation, and previously served on the National Credit Union Foundation Development Committee (2023-2024).

Under her leadership, Chartway has received national recognition for workplace excellence, innovation, and community impact, and is also the first Virginia-headquartered credit union to receive the prestigious Juntos Avanzamos designation for empowering Hispanic and immigrant communities, the credit union said.
