WASHINGTON — Congressional Federal Credit Union said it has increased the annual percentage yield on its one-year Flexible Saver Share Certificate to 6%, offering savers a product that can be opened with as little as $100.
The credit union said the rate took effect Aug. 3, 2026. Unlike many traditional share certificates, the product allows members to make additional deposits throughout its 12-month term, subject to a $1,000 maximum balance.

“For many people, the hardest part of saving isn’t earning interest — it’s simply getting started,” Brian Holloway, the credit union’s chief brand and transformation officer, said in a statement. “We wanted to design a product that rewards the decision to begin, not just the people who already have thousands of dollars to invest. Financial confidence starts with a first step.”
Congressional FCU said the certificate is intended for people building emergency savings, preparing for college or a first apartment, or pursuing other savings goals.
‘More Than a ‘Great Rate’
“Our goal isn’t simply to offer a great rate,” Holloway said. “It’s to create products that remove obstacles and help people build momentum toward their financial goals by removing barriers to getting started. We believe financial products should encourage progress — not require perfection.”
The Terms
According to Congressional Federal, the certificate has a one-year term, a $100 minimum opening deposit and a $1,000 maximum balance. Members may add money during the term, but each member is limited to one Flexible Saver Share Certificate.
The product is available nationwide through digital account opening and can be held in an individual retirement account. Standard early withdrawal penalties apply, the credit union said. Deposits are federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration up to applicable limits.
The credit union said the offering is part of its broader effort to make savings products more accessible. Additional information is available at congressionalfcu.org/certificates.
Founded in 1953 by eight congressional employees with $40 in deposits, Congressional Federal Credit Union said it now serves more than 52,000 members nationwide and has more than $1.3 billion in assets.
